Which parasol for a restaurant terrace?

The choice depends mainly on how the tables are arranged and who will operate the parasols. Four types of structure work well in hospitality:

• Telescopic parasols (Leonardo, Palladio and Verona Telescopic, Capri) – the canopy opens and closes above tables and chairs, so staff do not have to move any furniture.
• Side-post parasols (Braccio series) – the pole stands to one side, leaving the entire area under the canopy free for tables.
• Galileo and Astro retractable parasols – a side post and closing without moving furniture; on Astro, a gas spring keeps the effort needed to open it to a minimum.
• Multi-canopy structures (Dual, Quattro, Poker/Double) – two or four canopies on a single pole shade the whole terrace from one base.

What to consider when choosing

A commercial parasol has to suit the specific location. Before requesting a quote, it is worth establishing:

• the size of the area to be shaded and the table layout – from single 3×3 m parasols to 7×7 m structures,
• the canopy shape – rectangular canopies (e.g. 3×4, 4×5, 5×6 m) cover long rows of tables better,
• the strength of the structure – contract models such as Verona (80 mm pole) or Leonardo Braccio (92×92 mm pole) are built for intensive use,
• stability – the type of base and ballast is matched to the parasol size and the surface,
• the frame and fabric colour – so the parasols suit the venue’s interior design.
